What's New in Infodex Version 2.15
──> Maintenance Release - Memory Issues Addressed
Several of our users have reported receiving a Runtime Error
216 shortly after executing Infodex on a memory-limited
system. We have attempted to reduce the memory requirements
of the database manager (in protected mode), which should
make it much easier for users of memory-limited systems to
use Infodex without errors. Several other minor issues were
addressed, including enhanced network support.
What's New in Infodex Version 2.14
──> Two Executable Files!!! READ THIS!!!
This version of Infodex includes 2 executable files for
Infodex. The previous version of INFODEX.EXE was a
protected-mode only application (286 or higher required),
that required at least 1MB of extended memory. Many users
requested a version of Infodex that would run on memory-
limited systems. To address this, we have created 2
versions. The protected mode version has been RENAMED to
INFODEXP.EXE. (If you are upgrading from a previous version
of Infodex that worked well on your system, change your
executable file to INFODEXP.EXE!) The second (new)
executable file is a real-mode application (8088 or higher),
that will require at least 500K of conventional memory, with
an additional 512K of EMS recommended for better performance.
This file is named INFODEX.EXE, and is recommended if you are
running on a memory limited system that has EMS, but no
extended memory available. For more information, see the
Memory Requirements section of the documentation.
──> Sample files included.
STSI has included a sample database file (SAMPLE1.DAT) for
users to use when getting started with Infodex. This should
help you become familiar with how Infodex operates, without
needing to complete an entire template right away.
──> Minor problem fixes.
A few minor problems have been fixed including:
1. F3 was not working properly to allow users to change the
database description that was displayed on the top of the
editing screen.
2. The printing status screen has been updated with several
cosmetic changes.
3. A heap-leak problem was fixed. (This could have caused
intermittent hangs or screen corruption with Infodex after
extremely long periods of operation.)
What's New in Infodex Version 2.13
──> Minor feature enhancements.
Several helpful features have been added, such as the
Page 1
highlighter bar in the browser being displayed on the current
record when Browse is selected, instead of going to the first
record. Printing support has been enhanced to allow users to
print only the current record, in addition to all records in
the database. Users can cancel the printing process at any
time by pressing Escape. The database libraries have been
updated to the newest version, making database access faster,
especially when rebuilding the index file. Also added a
couple of message boxes to the "Next" and "Previous" routines
to inform users when they have reached the last record and
have "wrapped around" to the first or last record in the
database.
──> Problem fix for the "Delete Field" option when rebuilding a
database.
When users attempted to delete a field from an existing
database, corruption of the database file could occur. Any
fields AFTER the deleted field could show signs of
corruption, lost data, etc. This problem has been fixed!
──> Problem with Infodex Version 1 importing has been fixed.
The file ISAMIO.EXE, which is required to properly convert
Infodex version 1 files to version 2 was not included in the
distribution package for version 2.12.
What's New in Infodex Version 2.12
──> Import Infodex Version 1 Files!
Infodex now allows the importing of files created with
Infodex version 1.x.
──> Problem Fix For Importing
One noteworthy problem has been fixed when importing
delimited text files. If the total length of any one field
in the text file was equal to 0, the database would not
import properly.
──> Cosmetic Changes
Several cosmetic changes have been implemented, including a
notes indicator that shows that the field it is attached to
is a Memo field. A few minor color changes have been made,
and layout settings have been modified. For a complete list
of changes, please see the file INFODEX.REV.
What's New in Infodex Version 2.11
──> Optional Field Delimiters!
Infodex now uses optional field delimiters around fields on
the template. To toggle this setting, use the Configuration
Options screen, and check the Use Field Delimiters field.
(Default=On)
──> Problem Fixes
Several problems have been addressed in this version,

including a runtime error when attempting to import a
delimited file that contained numeric fields. For a complete
list of changes, see the file INFODEX.REV.
What's New in Infodex Version 2.10
──> Customized Templates!
Infodex Version 2.10 has added the ability for users to
create their own templates. Field lengths can be changed at
any time, and fields can be easily added to or deleted from
the database.
──> Enhanced Searching Capabilities!
Infodex can now search for data in any field of a database.
──> Data Importing!
Infodex can now import your data from a delimited text file.
The field and text delimiting characters can be customized by
the user.
──> Data Exporting!
Infodex can now export your data into a delimited text file.
The field and text delimiting characters can be customized by
the user.
──> Monochrome Support Enhanced!
Users of monochrome monitors will now notice a pleasant face-
lift on Infodex. Monochrome color schemes have been updated
to provide a more consistent appearance.
What's New in Infodex Version 2.02
──> Update For The High-Tech Trader!
Infodex Version 2.02 has added support to read "The High-Tech
Trader" data files created by The Bertha BBS. These data
files contain computerized "classified ads" to allow buyers
and sellers to place and respond to product ads. To download
the latest classified ads from The High-Tech Trader, call The
Bertha BBS at (218) 924-2060.
